Lateralization of complex binaural stimuli: a weighted-image model.
This article describes a new model that predicts the subjective lateral position of bandpass stimuli. It is assumed, as in other models, that stimuli are bandpass filtered and rectified, and that the rectified outputs of filters with matching center frequencies undergo interaural cross correlation. The model specifies and utilizes the shape and location of assumed patterns of neural activity th...
متن کاملLateralization Predictions for High-Frequency Binaural Stimuli
Revised Abstract The position-variable model [R.] is extended to describe the subjective lateral position of amplitude-modulated tones and bandpass noise, as well as other complex stimuli that are presented within spectral regions at which the binaural system appears to be unable to make use of cycle-by-cycle interaural temporal differences. Predictions of the model are based on the centroid of...
متن کاملBinaural summation and lateralization of transients: a combined analysis.
Subjects judged the loudness and the lateral position of dichotic transient signals, which were presented at equal and unequal levels, synchronously and asynchronously, to the two ears. Binaural loudness summation of clicks does not obey a law of linear addition: It is partial at low level and superadditive at high level. Supersummation is greater for interaurally delayed clicks than for coinci...
متن کاملA WEIGHTED LINEAR REGRESSION MODEL FOR IMPERCISE RESPONSE
A weighted linear regression model with impercise response and p-real explanatory variables is analyzed. The LR fuzzy random variable is introduced and a metric is suggested for coping with this kind of variables. A least square solution for estimating the parameters of the model is derived. The result are illustrated by the means of some case studies.
متن کاملLateralization and Detection of Low-Frequency Binaural Stimuli: Specification ot the Extended Position-Variable Model
This publication is a companion to a paper which extends the position-variable model to describe and predict binaural lateralization and detection phenomena at frequencies up to 1200 Hz. The most important modification made to the model is the development of a frequency-dependent form of a function referred to as p(τ | f) that describes the relative number of binaural concidence detectors in th...
